A GLIMPSE INSIDE NEPAL
- Nestled in the Himalayan Mountains, Nepal is home to Mount Everest, the world's tallest peak. It is bordered to the north by Tibet and to the south, east and west by India.
- The people of Nepal are highly diverse in terms of language, ethnicity, and culture. Nepal is the country with the highest percentage of Hindus in the world (81%).
- As a result of recent civil war and political instability, 25% of Nepalis live in poverty. Nepal is considered an undeveloped country, but Nepal's government has committed to improving conditions for Nepalis by 2022.
- Many Nepali women are at risk of sexual exploitation, both domestically and abroad. Labor slavery is also common, particularly in garment factories and brick kilns.
WHAT WE LOVE
Nepal has a rich artistic heritage and a design aesthetic that is truly unique. When we first saw pieces created by Artisans in Nepal, we were instantly impressed with the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail in their work. Plus, the Artisans' proximity to the booming craft centers of India makes it easy to incorporate the highest quality leather and metal findings into their pieces. Today, we are thrilled to partner with Artisans in Nepal who harness their craft traditions and local textiles to create one-of-a-kind pieces for Noonday.
