The Artisan Business we partner with in Nepal has been working in the Kathmandu region for over 25 years and aims to support communities made vulnerable by natural disasters and economic instability. By harnessing traditional craft techniques, the Artisans are able to build a bright future for themselves—while preserving the beauty of the past.

Techniques

Traditional Metalworking

Our Artisan Partners utilize a metalworking technique that incorporates etching to create the intricate shapes and sculpting seen in Noonday’s jewelry. The Artisans utilize a variety of metals, and all designs are hand carved.

Inlay

The stones used to create these pieces are set in metal, showcasing the intricate designs. All inlays are made using a hand-crafted composite stone.

Inside Nepal

Nestled in the Himalayan Mountains, Nepal is home to Mount Everest, the world's tallest peak. It is bordered to the north by Tibet and to the south, east and west by India.

The people of Nepal are highly diverse in terms of language, ethnicity, and culture. Nepal is the country with the highest percentage of Hindus in the world (81%).

In part because of recent civil war and political instability, 25% of Nepalis live in poverty. Nepal is considered an undeveloped country, but Nepal's government has committed to improving conditions for Nepalis in the next decade.

Lack of economic opportunities makes Nepali women at risk for exploitation—both domestically and abroad. Better access to work decreases the risk of both sex trafficking and labor trafficking.
